WHERE SIGNMAKING IS STILL AN ART
HANDCARVING

Although any wood may be handcarved, sign maker Anthony Skrip primarily uses redwood, pine, mahogany, and high denisty urethane. Boards are laminated, then cut to the appropriate size and shape; the design is then transferred to the surface.

Traditional carving tools are used to create the desired effect. Levels of dimension are created for a dramatic look. After carving, base material is finished with modern paint finish to withstand the elements. Other treatments such as handpainting and goldleafing can enhance the overall appeal and 3-D feel of the sign. This is a beautiful way to go!
